Love in Word and in Deed

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Those words were written by the apostle Paul who himself was transformed when he encountered Yeshua on the road to Damascus. He was that man who had extensive knowledge of the scriptures but did not have love. Yet one encounter with the love of God in the person Yeshua changed his life and he spent the rest of his days serving his Savior and his people.

Here at CBN Israel, we are privileged to represent Yeshua to those in need of His love both in word and in deed. Here’s one woman’s story of how God’s love was shown in a very practical way.

Through on-going meetings with the single mothers all over Israel, we become intimately acquainted with their stories and their needs. One single mother, *Ellah, who lives in Jerusalem, befriended another single mother *Tanya, and her children. Ellah invited them to come to a pool day sponsored by CBN Israel. Tanya and her children came. That is when the staff got the chance to hear her incredible story and the current needs she had in her home.

Tanya, originally from the Ukraine, moved to Israel where she met and married her husband. They have two daughters together. The husband, however, was a violent alcoholic, and the marriage soon ended in divorce. Tanya sought refuge from the abuse by moving back to the Ukraine to live close to family. But her heart longed for her homeland: Israel. Eventually, Tanya took courage and returned to Israel to face a life alone with her children. She came back with absolutely nothing.

That day at the pool was a turning point in her life. As the staff at CBN Israel heard her story and learned of her practical needs for furniture and to find work, they joined with the Joseph Project and sought to make a difference. In a matter of weeks, the home was complete with beautiful, new furniture. An old stove and fridge were replaced with new. A once bare living room is now beaming with sofas and a writing table for the children. Everyone is sleeping comfortably in new beds with new mattresses. And in addition, Tanya found steady work close to her home.

After a long, hard road of leaving all she knew and loved in the Ukraine, suffering in an abusive marriage, to divorce and living without the support of a husband or family, Tanya received a ray of hope into her life. She not only received practical help, she now has new friends at CBN Israel that love her and are available to her whenever she needs some support.

What a blessing it is to give. Paul reminds us that Yeshua taught us: “It is better to give than to receive” – Acts 20:35. Why do you think He made such a statement? Don’t we love receiving? As good as it is to get, there is nothing that satisfies the soul like giving to someone in need. It doesn’t matter whether the need is great or small. Giving is the most basic form of love. God IS love (1 John 4:8) and we read in John 3:16 that, “God so LOVED the world that He GAVE His Son”.  God gave us the best gift He could have ever given: Yeshua. He is enough to satisfy every need we may ever have. And because of love, God gave.

If you feel a tug in your heart, to help meet the needs of these single mothers”, here’s how you can make a difference!

  • Prayer! It is prayer that moves mountains and is a gift that can be given no matter where you are. Prayer is no small thing in the eyes of the Lord. See Matthew 17:20.
  • Words of encouragement! If you have a scripture or a word of encouragement that you would like to share with these believing single mothers here in Israel, you can do so here:
  • Donate! Every little bit we receive gives us another opportunity to share the love of God with more mothers just like Tanya. You can donate by selecting the CBN Israel option.
