Prince of Peace
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; And the government shall be upon his shoulders; And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”– Isaiah 9:6
Have you ever thought about the weight these words carry concerning this “coming one?” A child being born, a son being given makes us aware that someone special will be born to Israel such as a prophet or leader over the nation. But then, the names begin to roll out. “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God! Everlasting Father! Prince of Peace! What child could ever claim such titles apart from God Himself?
The Bible says that there is no one good, no one righteous, no one who could ever compare himself with God. (Romans 3:10-12).Doing so would be blasphemy. So then, how can Isaiah, a well-respected prophet in Israel, who hears the voice of the Almighty God speaking to him, say such a word about a child who is to be born of man?
We know in hindsight that the fulfillment of this prophecy is none other than Jesus, our Messiah. He gave and still gives counsel that confounds the wise and blesses the humble. (Mark 1:22, John 6:68).He descended from heaven and is one with the Father, making Him equal with the Almighty God.(John 10:30). He, being equal with God, is our representation of the Father in the form of man. And having all dominion and authority, He rules over all our enemies and gives us peace. (Colossians 2:15, Ephesians 2:14).
In this season of remembering that God Himself came to earth as a child, let us also remember the awesome titles He alone can claim. He is worthy of our praise!
God bless you.
